Who Darren is

Darren has spent more than 25 years in asset finance, most of it on the south coast, and has built a reputation for doing things differently. He is the person clients call when something needs sorting quickly, or when a deal is complicated enough that a form on a website is not going to cover it. Most of that time has been spent with the same kinds of businesses: contractors, hauliers, engineers and the people who keep them running.

How Darren works

He starts with the thing you actually need rather than the product that might pay for it. A van, a machine, a contract you have won and now need the kit for. The finance follows from that, and he explains it in language you do not need a background in lending to follow.

Speed matters in this business, and Darren treats it that way. He answers the phone, he calls back the same day, and if something is not going to work he will tell you early rather than let it drift for three weeks. After 25 years he has relationships with underwriters across the panel, which means a conversation about how a deal might be structured rather than an automated decline.

He is also straight about what he cannot do. Nobody arranging finance controls the decision, and a broker who implies otherwise is selling something. What he can tell you is which funders are worth approaching for your situation, what they will want to see, and roughly how long it is going to take.

What Darren handles

The work that comes to him directly, and the products it usually turns into.

IN DARREN'S OWN WORDS

"Tell me what you are trying to do and when you need it by. Working out how to fund it is my job, not yours."

Why people come back

A large part of Darren's work arrives through referral and repeat business, which in this industry is the only measure that means very much. Clients who bought one van come back three years later for the next three. Accountants pass on the businesses they cannot place elsewhere.

The reason tends to be consistency rather than anything dramatic. The same person picks up the phone each time. Nobody is passed to a call centre or handed to whoever is free. If a deal cannot be done, he says so at the point he knows, rather than at the point it becomes obvious.

It also helps that he remembers the business. What it bought last time, what it is still paying for, and whether the timing works for adding to it. That context is the difference between a quote and a genuinely useful conversation.
